Why the coach cannot message your child directly
Nobody at the club can open a private one to one message thread with a child under 18, and the app enforces that rather than trusting anyone to remember it.
Steps
- Open Messages.
- Press Message a coach.
- Choose Coach only for a private thread between you and the coach, or Coach and your child's name for a thread all three of you can read.
Good to know
- A coach's recipient list never offers a child under 18. It offers you instead, shown as parent of your child.
- If no parent is linked to a child, the child does not appear on that list at all. That is another reason a link matters.
- Your child's own inbox has no composer. They see a line saying a parent or guardian messages the coach on their behalf, and they can still read what is sent.
- The shared thread is the alternative, and it is deliberately transparent: you, the coach and your child all see every message in it.
- These rules come from the child's date of birth, so they lift on their 18th birthday without anyone having to do anything.
